Pour une fois ce n'est pas une série de photos que je partage, c'est un blog humoristique sur la photographie. Pour les photographes, je n'ai rien à expliquer - j'ai juste à traduire éventuellement pour les non anglophones ("Ton appareil photo fait des très jolies photos" / - / "Ta bouche fait des très jolis compliments") - ça leur est forcément déjà arrivé. Quand je jouais encore de l'harmonica de manière régulière, c'était la même chose: au lieu de complimenter quelqu'un sur son talent, on préfère le complimenter sur son instrument...

For once it's not a series of photos I share, it's a humor blog about photography. For photographers, there's nothing to say, you've all experienced this. When I was still playing harmonica on a regular basis it was always the same: instead of complimenting someone on his talent, he would get complimented on his instrument...

Dans le genre série de photos atypiques, ça se pose là: le photographe Jan Banning photographie des fonctionnaires dans 8 pays du monde, sur leur lieu de travail. Outre le fait que les photos soient belles, elles nous en disent long sur la façon dont nos pays sont gérés au quotidien. 

Talk about an atypical set of photographs: Jan Banning shot government officials in 8 countries around the world on their place of work. Beyond the fact that the photos are great, they also tell us a lot about how our countries are managed on a daily basis.

Mon exposition de photos de concerts, intitulée Scène(s) a commencé à l'Esperluette de Colombes mardi dernier. Comme je sais bien que les gens qui peuvent s'y rendre seront peu nombreux, j'ai crée un diaporama dans Flickr que je joins ici. Notez que vous pouvez également vous rendre sur la page de l'expo pour y voir des annotations (en Anglais) sur les artistes présentés et des recommendations d'écoute. 

My exhibition of concert photography, entitled Scènes(s) - Stage(s) - was inaugurated on Tuesday at l'Esperluette in Colombes. Since I know that few people will be able to attend the exhibition, I created a diaporama in Flickr which I'm attaching here. Also note that you can go on the expo page to read comments on the artists featured and listening recommendations. 

 

 

Check this out: Shoot Tokyo

A travers Google + j'ai découvert un blog génial intitulé Shoot Tokyo. Le blogger en question, Dave, est un adepte de Leica, et fait des photos de rues de Tokyo assez extraordinaires, souvent avec des profondeurs de champ très faibles. Ca donnerait presque envie de mettre la main sur un caillou à F/0.95 (mais je ne crois même pas que ça existe pour Canon...) Bref, c'est superbe et largement recommandé.

Via Google + I discovered a great blog entitled Shoot Tokyo. Dave, the blogger, is a Leica adept and makes a ton of extraordinary street photos, often with really shallow depth of field. It makes the prospect of an F/0.95 lens tempting (but I don't even think there is one for Canon mounts...) In summary, superb and well worth checking out.

Donate for Japan Earthquake & Tsunami Relief

It's been over a month now since the worst Earthquake and Tsunami in decades hit Japan. The world has since focused on issues related to the Fukushima nuclear plants, which unfortunately has completely overshadowed the tragedy of the earthquake and tsunami. As a consequence, donations for relief are not as important as they should. 

I was reminded of that when looking at Roland Lim's excellent website on photography and photo gear in Hong-Kong. Roland very quickly asked on his website for people to donate to the Japanese Red Cross but was dissapointed at the lack of response. Roland puts in a lot of time and voluntary work to help people interested in buying photography gear in Hong-Kong have a positive experience (essentially getting good prices without getting ripped off...) and I felt a little guilty myself at having postponed donation.

I just donated, and would encourage you to do the same. If you're ever in Hong-Kong in search of photographic advice then you will find Roland's invalualble, so if you're not motivated to donate just because, do it to help Roland feel good and keep his excellent work going.

A Pair of Lovers (Terry Border)

J'ai découvert un peu par hasard Bent Objects, un projet de macro qui n'est pas sans rappeler Little People in the City même si le résultat est totalement différent. Le principe ici c'est que le photographe construit des personnages en fil de fer avec des objets du quotidien et les met en scène. Beaucoup d'humour, et une technique photographique très impressionante...

I discovered by chance Bent Objects, a macro project which is somewhat reminiscent of Little People in the City even though the end result is totally different. The concept here is that the photographer creates wired characters with daily objects and scenarises them. A lot of humor, and a very impressive photographic technique...

Check this Out: Irina Werning

Une des personnes qui me suivent sur twitter (@fiberguy, si ça vous intéresse) m'a recommandé le site d'Irina Werning, et je ne pouvais pas ne pas vous le recommander à mon tour. Le principe des photos de Werning c'est de prendre un cliché qui a 20 ou 30 ans et de le recréer avec la même personne, le même lieu, les mêmes vêtements, etc. Ca donne une vision très intéressante du temps qui passe. De plus, Werning ne se contente pas de prendre la photo, elle travaille la photo pour en recréer la technique, défauts compris. Je ne sais pas comment elle peut résister à la tentation de faire de l'esthétique, mais le résultat est là, époustouflant. 

One of my twitter followers (I'm @fiberguy if you're interested) recommended me the site of Irina Werning, and I couldn't resist sending it along to you. The concept of Werning's photos is to take a photo that is 20 or 30 years old and recreate it with the same person, the same place, the same clothes, etc. It conveys a very interesting sense of the passing time. Furthermore, Werning doesn't just take the photo, she works at it to recreate the technique of the original shot, warts and all. I don't know how she can resist the temptation to do more esthetic shots, but the result is stunning.
